I often get questions about what kind of paper you should use for papercraft, what kind of glue, what does "scoring" mean, which program you need to open PDO files, and many more.

Although there's really no definitive answer to most of these questions of course, I made a small "Papercraft building FAQ" to help people with the most common questions:

Hello! I've done some simple papercrafts so far, and I am planning to move on to some more complicated models. And here is my question:
What do you use to protect the models? Some kind of spray, maybe? Is it to be applied before or after assembling?

Hi there! It's nice to hear you like papercraft so much that you want to keep doing it! ;o)

Personally, I don't use any kind of spray or anything to protect my models, but other people sometimes do spray their paper models to protect them, normally after the model is built.

I've heard people use lacquer, varnish, sprays you normally use on your wooden floor, acrylic sprays like "Krylon Crystal Clear", all kinds of different ones to be honest...

Whichever one you want to use, I'd always suggest trying it out on a really simple test model first, to see if it works, if it "bleeds" the colours, how far off you need to hold the can and so on...

If you go to a good store, the people there should be able to help you choose the right spray of course, and you can also find some suggestions online from other papercrafters (like I said, I haven't had any experience with doing this myself...!)

But I'm sure you can find a good spray to protect your work if you look around a bit, have fun papercrafting!

you guys don't have any tekken papercrafts, do you? If you don't mind, can you make one of Jin Kazama from tekken 3. I like polygonal characters.

I haven't made any papercraft Tekken models myself yet, and I'm afraid I can't promise you which models I might make in the future of course...

Tekken is pretty popular, but for some reason there don't seem to be many paper models of it yet...?

I do remember a papercraft toy of "Devil Jin" that was made by the same person that also made a paper toy Heihachi: [link]

And Gankutsu-o-taku made a Yoshimitsu helmet once: [link]

There might be more Tekken paper models of course, but these are the ones I can remember from the top of my head right now...!

hello ninjatoes, what kind of software do you use to modelling? thanks for your answer

Sometimes I don't use any software for the modelling, but when I do and I start from scratch, I often use SketchUp [link]

But I also do a lot of the work in Metasequoia [link] and I always use it to do the finishing touches on the 3D model, because its *.mqo format works perfectly with Pepakura Designer [link] the software that I use to unfold the 3D models (unfolding the 3D models directly from Google Sketchup often causes problems unfortunately...)

On my papercraft weblog, you can find many examples of the steps and modelling I do to make my paper models in the "Works In Progress" section: [link]

(especially in the "LEGO" section there are a lot of updates showing my SketchUp models: [link] )

Because papercraft is just a hobby of mine that I do in my spare time and I already have so many ideas, I really can't promise anybody to do specific models they like, sorry... :o(

There used to be a papercraft Fallout Maria gun on the papercraft weblog from XDiem on [link] but it seems the creator removed the blog completely unfortunately... :o(

With the Wayback Machine you can still visit an archived version of the page though: [link]

The 4Shared download link on the archived page still seems to work (you have to remove the "web.archive.org/web/20111109151631/" part from the link when you click it of course and you have to have a 4Shared account now).

But if you still can't get it to work, maybe now that you know the name of the website and the creator and the model, you can find it from other people that have uploaded it to their own websites...?

Sorry I can't help you better than this, I hope you can find a nice papercraft Fallout Maria gun to build!
