Parts and instructions to build your own papercraft Advance Wars Black Hole Anti-Air unit (+lots more!) are now available from my papercraft webpage: [link]
I thought that the "orange" on the barrels on the game sprite was only a "special effect" to make it look like the light was reflecting on the gunbarrels, so that's why I made them black like normal.
Because you can only see one small 2D sprite from one side in the games, I have to imagine what the third dimension looks like.
So my papercraft AW units are never 100% accurate, but I always try to make them look as close as I can get, unless it looks really strange in 3D (sometimes the proportions look really funny luke cannon barrels that would be oval instead of round otherwise... ;o)
Many of the Advance Wars units are actually based on super deformed/chibi versions of real military planes and vehicles, so in those cases, I often use those as extra inspiration, but for Blak Hole's units, it's not so obvious whether they're actually based on any real military machines...? ;o)
Yep, I think in general, Yellow Comet is suppose dto be the Japanese army, Orange Star, the Americans, Blue Moon the Russians, and Green Earth Germany/Europe.
But it's not 100% completely accurate I think, because Green Earth's B-Copter is obviously a Russian Mil Mi-Hind I think, and Blue Moon's Fighter plane a French Mirage, and the Yellow Comet light Tank a French Renault FT-17 and the MD Tank a Russian KV-2 and there are other exceptions. But I think they made a nice mix, and you can still tell the different styles of the armies! ;o)
