Wow--that looks AWESOME! I'm totally making one.
What kind of paper do you recommend? I know you say thick, but could you be more specific? :)

I always use 200 gsm (grams per square meter).

It's difficult to give a simple conversion for lbs paper weights because of the different paper types in that system, but it's about 2.5 times as thick as regular printer paper (usually 75-80 gsm).

It's really just a personal choice, though: I like it because it makes the final model nice and strong and I find it easy to work with, but other people prefer anything from 120-160 gsm.

Most stores that carry regular printer paper also sell thicker office paper, and if not, they can order it for you.

Have fun building!

What did you use to make the model?

:iconninjatoespapercraft:
To make the parts for the model, just a pencil and water colours, and to build it, just an X-Acto knife and glue. ;o)

An ambitious project! ;o) Give me a heads up when it's done or when you take some work in progress pictures, because I'd love to see that! ;o)

I am taking a break from that project and i am currently making a working metal hilt Halo 3 Energy Sword. It will have a steel plated hilt with LED lights, plastic 4 ft long blades and all the theatrics of a real Halo energy sword. On the Enterprise project i am having trouble on the secondary hull.

It's good to take a break when you're stuck on a project I think, otherwise it would just become frustrating to work on it. There are lots of reference sites like [link] to get some inspiration if you need it. The only trick is not to only start new projects of course... ;o)
